Salt Rubbed in a Wound

By Ann Christine Tabaka
Salt Rubbed in a Wound
Salt rubbed in a wound.
Burning will not cease.
Darkness closing in,
with a fainting cry.
No more time to heal,
the pain it is on fire.
You never did care how much
I suffered at your hand.
Turning your back,
you walked away from us.
There will be no tomorrow.
Not a breath of life is left.
To you it was a game,
that was only for your pleasure.
You knew how to extract,
exactly what you wanted.
So now the time has come
to rub salt in my wound.
Sodium and chloride
were your final act.
